Rep. Welter: Governor and House Speaker should call a special session to pass a balanced budget

MORRIS– State Representative David A. Welter (R-Morris) is calling on Governor Bruce Rauner and House Speaker Michael Madigan to bring legislators back to Springfield for an immediate special session to pass a balanced state budget:

“Every day when I meet with constituents and listen to feedback from our community, I hear the same request – enough with all the politics. Get back to Springfield and pass a budget,” Rep. Welter said. “I have been ready and willing since the day I took office last summer to do exactly that. The Governor and the Speaker should call a special session so that we can pass a balanced budget before the end of June. Without a balanced budget, we will find ourselves right back in this same position in the very near future, with the state making commitments it cannot afford; putting our schools and social service providers in further jeopardy. I want to be a part of the solution in Springfield, which means coming together and passing a balanced budget now.”

“Illinois families and taxpayers are rightfully tired of all the excuses,” Rep. Welter added. “Democrat, Republican or independent, we all share the same stake in the future of our kids and our community. We need to do right by them and pass a balanced budget.”

Both the Governor and the Speaker of the House have the ability to call the Illinois House of Representatives back into special session at any time. Illinois has been operating without a comprehensive state budget since July 1, 2015.
